In the northern Jordan Valley, an orchard was planted during the COVID-19 pandemic to commemorate those who fell in the Jordan Valley during the years since the state’s establishment and until today. Fruit trees are planted out of a desire to deepen our roots in the soil and plant a living thing in the ground that will grow and give fruit forever.
Every year, around Yom HaZikaron, we expand the orchard and plant another plot of trees to commemorate the fallen. Last year, we planted about 300 trees in memory of IDF soldiers and terror victims from the city of Beit Shean and from the Jordan Valley and Binyamin regional councils.
Today, there are about 750 fruit trees in the orchard, and each tree bears a sign with the name of the person it commemorates.
